Inspector Gadget reader “Notellin” says:
“I was watching the news today and saw a very touching piece on a young lad with a very nasty, low survival cancer called Neuroblastoma. It attacks kids, young kids normally from the age of 2 or so. The bit on TV had the lad only 5 or so talking and aware of his own mortality. The lads name is Jack Brown and I warn you its a bit heartbreaking”

We are all Jack’s family, he needs us.
“His parents, who are both Police Officers, are in a desperate drive to raise money for more treatment (in America) something like £350,000 or so I think”

Jack’s Dad and Mum are ‘Job’. Gadget readers will see Jack as their own. We would help any child, but this is close to home.
“Can I put this link here for anyone to have a look at please? They have a donations and “how can you help” bit on the website”
Gadget says: please visit the website and hit the “donate” button. We must do this for Jack’s parents and for Jack. They are family. We do this job to help others and serve the honest, law abiding public. Now, one of our own needs us and we must be there for him. Please donate.

Donated!
Me too! I was complaining about having a cold today – this really puts things into perspective. I wish Jack and his family all the best.
Hmmm tried to donate via web page but would let me, ill try again later…
Good Luck Jack
Martin
I think your readers might have crashed the system; I’ll try again later.
All the stuff and nonsense statistics we read all day every day, when actually its figures like this,
‘All 10 patients treated in the same way over the past three years have remained disease free; this is very significant. When a parent is about to lose their child, these statistics are vitally important.’
that really matter.
I’ve donated in appreciation for your blog. Hope everyone else follows suit!
I’m in
Tried to make a donation, but the page comes up as unavailable. Thanks for bringing this to our attention boss. If we can’t look after our own, then its a shoddy state of affairs. Will try again.
Some of my colleagues cycled to New York for the JB appeal last year… They are doing it again this year…. We’re in!
IG:
Thanks for making a post about it and tidying up my grammar, your post says it all, any thing we can do we should and the response from everybody is great. Although i have no connection with them, i just saw it on the TV, your exactly right, he is one of our own (extended Police) family.
I’m in too. Can we somehow get this circulated to all the forces in England and Wales on the Police secure network thingy? I have just read this and thanked God for the health of my own 2 boys. Untidy bedrooms are not that important anymore.
I feel really angry, at our underfunded NHS, money wasted here there and everywhere, people who complain about trivial sh**.
My prayers are for this family.
The Jack Brown appeal is very well known in the Met, and I have donated time and time again and even had events to help support young Jack and the family gettng the much needed support and monies to help Jack including there frequent visits tothe US for just that.
Keep the appeal alive in your service area. !
Regards.

I might not be a policemanofficer, but I’ve donated all the same, a wee lad and his family shouldna hae to go through all o’ this. Though obviosly in an ideal world no one should like.
Donated and circulated to all my friends and colleagues
Hi, thanks for helping kids! My son
Sean has Neuroblastoma, thankfully he is doing fine. I think it is great that you are a “family” and can help each other, especially kids like Jack. It helps ALL the kids actually by increasing awwareness of childhood cancer, and of Neuroblastoma which is rare, underfunded, and can be devastating. Best Wishes, I hope you get lots of donations for Jack. God Bless,
Love, Ellen~Sean’s Mom

Tried to donate but site jammed… I’ll keep trying. In the meantime I’ve added Jack’s story to my blog page…
5 years old is way, way too young to have to deal with this kind of thing.
Money sent. hope it helps.
I’ve given what I can but it’s pay day soon so intend to give more then.
All the best to the young lad and his family. As you say boss, we’ve got to look after our own.
Hi All, noy a policeperson, just a MOP, but I have donated too. Hope the little lad recovers. Best wishes to you all.
Jane
Made my donation too, saw the piece n TV. I wish them all the best.
Ladies and gents, sorry to hijack this one but if you weren’t aware already, another serving officer has died on duty. Tragically PC Christopher Hart from GMP died following a collision on a response call. The BBC news link is below, I hope you’ll all join me in wishing PC Harts family and colleagues sincerest wishes and condolences and a speedy recovery to the other people injured in the crash.
The exact details of the incident are not clear from the news reports I’ve read, but as PC Hart was a response officer, he was one of the few officers still engaged in frontline duties at the time of the incident and was responding to a call for help from someone else.

Fingers crossed for the wee lad, life is never fair but children should never be required to bear such trauma there is no justice
Donation made
OK… website working when I went back on, so I have donated and bought the CD.
I do a bit of part-time DJ-ing, so maybe playing the CD will spread awareness…..
My thoughts with the Family, Friends and Colleagues or PC HART.
Money donated and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that little lad.
Lost for words…
[...] Brown Appeal. Posted on January 13, 2008 by whichendbites Got this post from the Inspector Gadget site after being made aware from one of his regular readers [...]
If all serving and retired officers sent just £10 , the price of a round of drinks, we could easily raise the amount needed.
Money on it’s way. All the best Jack.
I’m afraid I can’t help very much, but I’ve put a post on my blog with links to the website and here.
Donated. Just an MOP here but as someone who’s lost close family to cancer i can identify with this couple and the poor kid.
Sorry to ask an unrelated question IG (or any other person on the job here), but what exactly is the stance on carrying a samurai sword now? I’m a martial artist & I often transport mine from point A to point B for training / display purposes and back again, never stopping for things of course – this used to be ok. Is it still given the changes?
Donated. God bless Jack, keep fighting!
donated. best wishes to Jack and to Sean Hanson (see above) – and to their families
Thank you for spreading the word. Like Ellen posted earlier, my daughter, Isabella is a 3 year survivor of Neuroblastoma. I hope you raise a lot of money to help his family out. Thank you again for your wonderful post.

As thin blue line posted above, this is one of the few things I am impressed with in the Met, the way that this is regularly pushed by the force itself and shown on the intranet on regular basis.
I have donated to the Jack Brown appeal before, and I have also been involved in some events for it.
Any met readers tell me if the police teddy bear they are selling in the Met is raising funds for the Jack Brown appeal?
This has been doing the rounds down in the Met for a while and I have already given genorously. We all got lovely tie pins of a job tophat with little feet sticking out from underneath.
Thank you for spreading the word gadget!!!!
Will donate when I can get my wife to work the machine for me, will also try and get this round tvp.
