The Government has lost the personal details of every child in the nation, along with the banking particulars of 25 million adults who care for them. Ruralshire Constabulary is aghast at this news. Aghast, because something bad has happened that the police are not responsible for.

Child benefit – oooops!
Debbie and I are concerned in case our bank details get into the hands of fraudsters and they hack into our account and steal our overdraft.
This could be a good time to have your money in Northern Rock after all.

Northern Rock – oooops!
Mr Darling must be due for a move to the Home Office. Then we could make loads of Blackadder jokes. But it wouldn’t really be that funny.

First again? hehe. Oops… IG and I appear to have synchronised our ‘crap to keyboard’ cycles… which is a bit of a worry.
On a tiny, teeny positive note from the child benefit data fiasco, the dude in charge of HMC&R has done the decent thing and resigned. All for the loss of a couple of CD’s. Now if only you did that for the loss of a Brazilian electrician, wouldn’t the world be a bit different?
Yes , love the bit about stealing our overdraft , pity the poor underling who thought “i know lets send this by unregistered post ” and hey it didn’t arrive , lets send another ,and another ” what do you think if it was a cop ? 5 days pay at a panel ?
Isn’t Alistair Darling the eejit who was moved fromt he transport department after making apigs arse of it? I’m sure he is hte plank who vetoed the planned extension to our Metrolink in Manchester as well. So couple that with the fact that he’s just lost the personal details of half the country and that makes him a bit of a pillock doesn’t it? Still, this being labour we can confidently expect everything to be blamed on an aide somewhere and Alistair to accept no responsibility and come out unscathed. I’m 28 and I remember the days when politicians who stuffed up had the decency to offer their resignation and if they didn’t they were asked to resign. In the current administration those in favour could ride naked up Whitehall on a donkey brandishing a loaded pistol and a copy of the Nazi handbook and they’d still not be asked to hand in their notice. I wonder what zsize of fuck up you actually have to make to get fired now?
It was mentioned on BBC breakfast news that if this were to happen in the USA, then the organisation at fault have to contact every person effected and inform them of exactly what information has gone missing, that should be the case here.
Therefore I propose that everyone who suspects that they are affected writes to HMRC and demands to be told exactly what personal information was held on the discs.
Just wait until they get the new national ID scheme up and running, with 256 government departments and 48,000 authorised private companies having access to the three databases underpinning the scheme…
please: Blackadder (with two “d”s)
John
Just suppose the person who’s got their sticky little mitts on our bank details, is on a mission to carry out a random act of kindness, they could pay money into our overdrafts and just for once it would be cost effective to have more, rather than fewer children.
It’s crazy, and to think all I did was borrow money from petty cash….
I loved the overdraft comment too.
It’s times like these I’m glad I don’t have children.
They must use the same internal mail system as us or the CPS.
The PM tried to put some of the blame on the Tories at Prime Ministers Questions today.
How long have they got to be in government before they take responsibility for their mistakes.

I’m surprised they haven’t blamed the Post Office and their strike action as the cause of it going missing!

What’s gone wrong with this country.
“Move on please, we’ve had complaints from the local residents”
“No”
“Ok, if I get you some fags will you take your anti social behaviour and blight another neighbourhood?”
Absolute joke, they should be ashamed of drawing a salary from the public purse
I think Alistair Darling should fall on his sword. Not resign, just fall on his sword!
That has increased the nation’s confidence to be compelled to carry ID cards. What did the Government say about that something like ‘the information would be secure’.
AAAHH Darling!!
I was watching some news report today and emails were coming in from workers within HMRC all saying how overworked, underpaid, short staffed and demoralised they all were – I thought that was just the Police, NHS, Prison etc etc.
My, our governement has f$%ked us all up.
Why aren’t you guys arresting the people in HMRC? It is a clear breach of the official secrets act.
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1989/ukpga_19890006_en_1#l1g8
yeah but the MP’s are ok with 40% payrises and expenses…i wonder if they have to submit a receipt with every claim????
So Guv – changed your bank accounts yet?
Why don’t we do the same with our crime stats? Put them all on an old Maxell Tape and lob them in a post box in East London which is bound to be set alight that very night!… wheel out a fall guy, retire him on full pension after he says sorry and takes the blame off the Commish! Job done… two days later, get the National football team to steal all the headlines for being crap and we get away scott free with it all!
So far the government has used this trick to bury Immigration files, CSA files and weaopns inspectors….. As a plan, you got to say… its a runner!
“Aghast, because something bad has happened that the police are not responsible for.”
I think you are jumping the gun Boss. At some the police will have failed to find the disks.
I see we are still using that old chestnut “lost in the post” rather than “stolen by a postal worker”. It is amazing that the items sent to me that I know that have been ‘lost’ are either DVDs or elctronics.
This isn’t really a comment but I couldn’t find an email link.
Would you care to comment on this story Inspector? http://tinyurl.com/3al8tu
I am particularly interested in the necessity of locking up the pensioner.
Rich
I said this only yesterday, that there will be some point in the near future, where the commisioner or some other poor sap at NSY will be apologising for our blunder. It already over the news that the police are investigating the issue…. why? if its not a thatf, then why are the police investigating?… if its a loss then why are we investigating… I’ll tell you why…. so we can be blamed.
God bless labour
Ps. Rich – I think the spokesperson for Gloucs actually answers your question.
“Chief Inspector Roger Clayton who oversees policing in Gloucester said: “The issues surrounding this gentleman’s time in custody followed an altercation with another individual and the arrest of both was necessary and justified to prevent further harm to either as well as to ascertain exactly what had gone on, given that both were making allegations.
“Following our investigations, the full facts were presented to the Crown Prosecution Service who decided that no further action should be taken against Mr Barratt as it would not be in the public interest to pursue a prosecution.”
“And seven hours of hell in a cell” would have actually been a couple in the cell, at least an hour possibly two to process, plus interview, and regular health checks from the Doctor…well he wouldn’t have spent much time in there. I’m not defending the actions, thats for them to do… but just cos the bloke is old, it doesn’t mean we have to assume he can’t give someone a back hander… for all we know, the other bloke might have been a quiche-eating-pacafist with motor nuerone disease and a wooden leg, should we not put him in a cell too? even if the poor old pensioner says he pushed him over?
Its really difficult to comment on newspaper articles fairly, because they are not written fairly…
Sorry Guv… stealing your thunder, but it was posted just as I was reading!
Hmm, perhaps the lost data can be tracked back to a call centre in INDIA!
Talking about identity, I’ll be at the already infamous Gadget-Bloggs summit next month, just to see fair play, and I’m open to offers.
It’s not really Darling’s fault that Waterview Park in Washington employes thickies, I used to work there after all so there’s a precedent
I think Darling should now move onto the Olympic porfolio-and -bring Mandleson back to help him, the games will be safe-in fact have a three hander and get Steve( twat head!) McLaren to assist with tactics-we will all be able to watch in pity for evermore…………( Sorry but was at Wembley last night) I need to f***up big style on my patch and perhaps I can get a big payoff and a mansion in Barbados……..
Got my “personal” letter of apology for mislaying mine and 25 million other people details today. Wonder how much that cost?
Did you see that the Govt has set up a telephone helpline for anyone worried about loss of their personal details?
It’s an 0845 number and will cost YOU 8.5p per minute to call whilst the Govt pockets the profit.
Is it me?……….
One hears that Mr Darling’s mortgage is with Northern Rock.
Shouldn’t he have made a declaration of interest
and then excused himself from any action in the matter…
(Or should that be: shouldn’t he have made a declaration of interest…)
Mikey
Totally-UnPC : Clearly this is a crime and needs to be investigated. If they were misplaced, then they would have turned up by now. So someone has obviously found them and dishonestly appropriated them. A bit like when you’ve dropped your mobile in a night club and had 15 pints but you need a crime number for the insurance. NCRS rocks!
