As for a lot of the South London “Yoof” recently shot/stabbed I’m not surprised. Actually very annoyed about press portraying them as victims as most were well known as robbers/involved in drugs/prom noms. Tragedy kids that young getting killed but as a friend of mine who works Lambeth said “at least our crime figures will drop now”
“It is too early to say whether our amnesty…..”
Yea! Yea! Yea!
My wife is researching our family history and has been quite deeply involved in the details of WW1. Absolutely horrendous what the politicians did with our lads. Is it really any wonder that they couldn’t care less about a mere ‘handful’ of citizens now?
Every generation takes a step down the ladder into the darkness. I did stuff I shouldn’t have when I was a ‘yoof’, as did my dad and my dad before him. That won’t change. What does change is the levels of what is acceptible and what is not and the responsibility and action taken. Where I would have risked a form of treatment dished out by adults ranging from a serious talking to, towards a boot up my backside, this has progressed to a perception by the ‘yoof’ of being untouchable. I wouldn’t have dreamed of telling my father else I would have had another boot up my backside to show for it. When they are young some of their misguided parents spring to their defence in complete ignorance of their actions. They all know their alleged rights and no-one in the community challenges their behaviour without risk of consequences, some of them fatal. The attitude appears to be that the ‘yoof’ are allowed to get away with unaceptible behaviour without responsibility for their actions or without any consequences when they are apprehended. The answer seems to lie with the Police because the three traditional rules of law, guidance and supervision, namely families, schools and police are now collectively unable to resolve issues. Anyone working lates-nights will see the cell spaces full, detainees being carted to neighbouring forces or the extended use of street bail when this is often innapropriate. A means to relive cell space yes, but innapproariate. Add to this the media and the trial type reporting to both report the ‘news’ and to put blame and responsibility at someone’s door in the ‘public interest’ and the public are fed a constant line of bad, disturbing and worrying news.
This paints a bad picture and increases the fear of crime. This fear of crime is real. Contrary to what any politician will say, itis real. Old people are afraid to go out at night, all groups of ‘yoof’ are regarded with suspicion because they are getting tarred with the brush that tars everyone the same. This is not the case but itis inevitable.
The problems out there are real. The problems out there are not going away and will get worse. The good news is that thousands offrontline response jockeys are out there doing their best and don’t get the support and backing they should in a society where the important thing is to promote the brand at a cost of not dealing with the problems.
At least we still have our statistical forms to submit, so everything is alright now and we won’t drop in the cacky. Submit the forms, follow the flock………..baaaahhhhh.
I must be more cynical than I thought, because i thought one of the reasons for amnesties such as this was so that when the perpetrators of knife crime came to court they couldn’t argue about having to have their knife because they couldn’t get rid of it.
I cannot believe that bosses actually think knife/gun/whatever amnesties work.
Whenever we see the stuff emptied into bins, it comes from folk who never carry them about, nor have any intention of stabbing someone up with them.
Be honest, how many of them come from folk finding some article in a loft belonging to the,/dead uncle/other family member and they crap themselves thinking they will get into trouble with the Police for having the item. Then into the bin goes an antique last used during the battle of Waterloo.
Drug dealers do not obtain a conscience during an amnesty and hand in their samurai swords.
Neds do not hand in their blades that they like showing off to their mates and keep for ‘protection’.
Can anyone tell me if the rest of Europe has the same problem with Neds/Chavs ?
Is it just our country that is totally shafted ??
I have always wondered about the point of knife amnesties for several reasons.
1) As previously stated above the only people who hand stuff in are people who aren’t going to use them.
2) There is no incentive to hand then in as the penalty for carrying them is so low.
3) EVERY SINGLE CRIME i have investigated from possession to s18’s involving a knife wasn’t committed using some Rambo style mini machete but a kitchen knife. My house has plenty, a cleaver to (for cooking n stuff), the supermarkets sell them their everywhere and cheap. How the hell is a knife amnesty going to reduce the number of actual crimes committed with knives when the knives used are kitchen knives we all use an need for slicing our veg up for the pan?
4) I know of at least two cases where CPS refused to charge for possession when a knife amnesty was on as after a little “briefing” by their brief they all claimed they were walking to the local nick to hand it in for the amnesty. If i know of two how many more in the 43 forces have got off with this?
5) Why do amnesties only run for a set period, surely every Police station should have permanent no questions asked gun bin?
6) Why are the media so dum to keep falling for this publicity stunt, its so old, Sir Bobby Peel probably considered it past its best in his day and he bloody well invented us.
7) Gun amnesties are one thing but knife amnesties are counter productive, i say permanent gun bins and an end to knife amnesties, they are just to dum!
Boy, 11, shot dead returning from football
A Merseyside police spokesman said: “We have been dealing with a major incident involving a firearm in Croxteth. The area around the pub is notorious for its high levels of gun-crime and gang-related incidents and police are trying to crack-down on antisocial behaviour. (BUT NOT THE GUN CRIME?)
Police have imposed a curfew at bus stops to curb outbreaks of trouble in the area.
Insp Louise Harrison said: “The designated area has been introduced in response to concerns about gangs of youths who hang around behaving in an anti social way.
(NOT IN RESPONSE TO THE KILLING? OR WERE THEY ALREADY IN PLACE?)
“High visibility patrols will ensure the designated area is not breached.”
(Then maybe we’ll get a coupleof PCSO’s to investigate this alleged shooting)
Obviously the way to go .
Bins for guns, that’s the gun crime sorted leaving the way clear to sort out this antisocial behavior malarky.
Yeah that will keep the skate boarding PCSO’s busy while we sort the paperwork.
Thank God I now live in Spain and only have to read this bullshit a la Insp Louise Harrison and can pretend that it is all a glorious wind up.
What’s as shocking is that the person who pulled the trigger is alleged to be only 12 years old. I bet he was one of the youths dispersed from the bus shelters.
I’ve never seen the point of weapons amnesties, or of most anti-weapons legislation.
I’m just a MOP, but I’m also a survivor of a stabbing (originally charged as attempted murder, but bargained down to wounding with intent) where a 5″ kitchen knife was the weapon my ex-husband used on me.
“There is no such thing as a dangerous weapon, only dangerous people.”
Oh first post !!!
Guv are you surprised???

Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime……
Just government rhetoric as usual.

Time for another ‘foto’ of the flock me thinks.
The knife amnesty worked then….at least for the media it did.

Sometimes amnesties have surprising results!

The knife is not the problem it is the person carrying it and their intentions that is the problem.
Permanent gun bins? Just the place to ditch the evidence no questions asked.
Do they have one in Croxteth yet?

Syl2000 , I couldn’t agree with you more.
